Ramnaresh Sarwan scored 67 not out to steer West Indies to a five-wicket victory over New Zealand at Christchurch in the second one-day international on Saturday.
In a game reduced to 28 overs a side because of rain, West Indies were set 158 after New Zealand made 152-8 and they won with one ball remaining to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series after the first game was washed out.
New Zealand’s batsmen were initially restricted by some ruthless and penetrating pace bowling from Fidel Edwards, who claimed 3-26 from six overs. Jesse Ryder top scored with 32.
Sarwan dominated the West Indies reply with his 65-ball effort that comprised three boundaries and a six. It was Sarwan’s 30th half-century in one-day internationals.
The third match of the series is another Day-Night match, on Wednesday in Wellington.
